How Dental Crowns Restore Damaged Teeth

Discover all there is to know about getting dental crowns in Glenview.

Our Glenview, IL dentists at Family Dental are able to accomplish a lot with dental crowns. Whether you are looking to revive damaged dental crownsor severely decayed teeth or you have a malformed or discolored tooth, dental crowns are here to the rescue.

Crowns are a versatile restoration with countless benefits. While there are many different types of crowns, we know that our patients appreciate having a crown that looks and feels as much like a real tooth as possible. That’s why we offer ceramic crowns, which are still resilient and strong but also look like natural teeth, so no one will even know that you are wearing a crown.

What should I expect when I get a dental crown?

After your consultation, where we determine that your smile can benefit from getting a dental crown, there are several steps that need to happen before you can get your new restoration.

Step 1: We will need to take impressions of your mouth. After all, how can you get a custom-fitted crown without us first knowing the shape and size of your teeth? Impressions are the best way for the dental lab to know the exact specifications and measurements to create a crown that fits properly.

Step 2: In order for the crown to fit we will also need to shave off some enamel from your tooth. Anesthesia is administered to the area prior to removing the enamel, so you won’t feel a thing. Since enamel has to be removed we will place a temporary crown over the tooth to protect it from damage while your permanent crown is being made.

Step 3: It can take up to a week (and sometimes more) to get your new crown. Once your crown has arrived you will come back in to have it cemented over your old tooth to improve the health and look of your smile.

Family Dental in Glenview, IL is here to make sure that your smile always looks great. Whether you need a dental crown to replace a damaged tooth or you want to get a whiter smile fast, we are here to help you achieve your smile goals.
