DIAGNOdent

Identifying and filling cavities is a vital service that we provide to you, our patients. Even the smallest spot of decay can threaten to destroy an entire tooth. Cavities can begin from tiny, microscopic defects in the hard surface enamel of your teeth. Xrays and probing, while still valuable tools, are limited in detecting this decay below the surface of your tooth, particularly when the cavity is in its early stages. The sooner we find cavities and tooth decay, the sooner we can begin a treatment plan.

How does DIAGNOdent work?

DIAGNOdent is a state of the art small laser instrument which scans your teeth with harmless laser light searching for hidden decay. This unique instrument provides instant feedback on the health of the tooth. The tool is non-evasive, it simply glides over tooth surfaces constantly checking the health of your teeth. At any sign of hidden decay, a number scale and alarm signal our dental hygienist that there are signs of hidden decay. The process is completely safe and pain free.

With this new technology, we are able to find cavities sooner, preventing tooth decay at a much earlier stage. It allows us to do less probing and prodding during dental exams and in the long run, can save you time and money otherwise spent on major tooth repair.

With conventional instruments, it is generally not possible to probe drop-shaped fissures. DIAGNOdent has the great advantage of detecting caries in the very early stage by measuring the laser fluroescence within the tooth structure.
